The Texas Page Is Dedicated to
Roberta Drusilla Dukes Richardson

Roberta Dukes was born in Texas, and although she lived much of her adult life in Shreveport, Louisiana, she claimed Texas as her home. She particularly loved West Texas, where the perpetual winds and lack of water cause low-growing trees. She always said you couldn't trust a tree you couldn't see in one glance. Roberta Dukes Richardson died in 1948, but in her lifetime, traveled, researched, photographed, and wrote, leaving for those who follow an image of herself that makes it possible to know her now. In 1933, she joined the Pelican Chapter DAR in Shreveport on the lineage of James Boidstone of North Carolina. She is pictured here on the steps of the National Archives in Washington, D.C. Her research is the foundation of that of many family members who follow her.
